Wait for your sail

When your lover holds you, do you feel passion? When kissed, do you feel the love coming through those kisses? Does your person make you feel warm, loved, protected and eternally grateful for your presence?

I love the movie Cast Away. I think it is a great story and I love all of Tom Hanks’s work. But that’s not why I love this movie. He is suddenly all alone. He does not know for sure where he is, or how he can leave. He has no choice but to live, day-by-day, waiting to see what will happen next. He considers suicide but realizes that even this is not an option. He must live one day at a time, protecting himself, taking nourishment from his surroundings as best he can. He has no one to talk to, to share his pain, express his fears to, exercise his thoughts with in hopes that an answer can be found. All he can do is exist. And he lives this way for four years. Waiting….

Then, one day the sea offers him a sail.  At first, he doesn’t realize it can be a sail.  Initially, he’s afraid of the object, he does not recognize what it is, much less what it could become.  He fears it and approaches cautiously.  Slowly he realizes it could be his escape.  He ponders the danger of using the sail to go to another place.  He knows it is dangerous.  In fact, it could kill him.  But he takes a chance even though he is afraid.  The sail takes him to a better place.

This story could be a metaphor for love.  We all come into this life with constraints, whether they are constraints on our ability, intellect or our bodies.  There is only so much that each of us can achieve in this life, and what makes life fun is learning what those constraints are and accepting them.  To push our boundaries as far as possible, to reach the final restrictions that will limit us, while leaving nothing left in our efforts.  This is how to find our real purpose in life.

But there are no constraints on love.  Every human has an abundance of love all around them.  It is there for every one of us to find and enjoy.  But it takes patience.  We must wait, even if it means being single until late in life.  If you open your heart to this, it will happen. To whomever you pray; whether it is God, Spirit, the Universe or even your Inner Self, pray for patience while love finds it’s way to you.  Pray that you will have the ability to recognize it and know it’s truth and fullness once it arrives.

Having passion and love for someone who does not have a desire for you is not real love.  It is your ego mind tricking you.  Your ego is the practical side of your brain – the part of your brain that helps you with logic.  Your everyday tasks in life and work are managed by your ego mind.  It is the side that says “save your money, don’t take a risk because you might get hurt, don’t be foolish, don’t act silly or let yourself be embarrassed.” Without ego, none of us can survive.

But Ego knows nothing about love.  Ego tells you just accept the person in front of you because there may never be another.

Your love and passion come from the other side of your brain.  I have heard this referenced as “Sacred Self.”  For me, this resonates.  Let your Sacred Self guide you in matters of the heart.  Do not be afraid to walk away from any relationship that is not fulfilling.

Have your past relationships led you to believe that you are not worthy of love?  That true love does not exist for you, or will not live in the future?  I am here to tell you this is nonsense.  Are you ready to be with someone long-term, for marriage, perhaps for children?  Marriage without true love, even though it could bring you joy through your children, will eventually bring you misery.

Please consider: does your significant other make you feel loved and secure?  If not, I hope you will find the courage to walk away. Perhaps your true love is already in your life, someone you have yet to recognize.  Regardless if true love is already in your life or five years away, please have patience and wait for it to reveal itself to you.  Be secure in yourself, in your capabilities, in your family, and friends.

There is an abundance of love all around you.  Try to see it in your everyday tasks.  Listen for it in the signs that present themselves to you every minute of your life. Wait for what your Sacred Self is telling you will come.
